Covid-19 Effect on Michelman Supply Chain http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Covid_19-Effect-on-Michelman-Supply-Chain media@michelman.com http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Covid_19-Effect-on-Michelman-Supply-Chain
<p><em><strong>Note:</strong> This article was updated on April 6, 2020 to reflect new information.</em></p> <p>Michelman continues to take a proactive approach with all aspects of our business as they relate to Covid-19. The safety and well-being of our employees and their families, customers, and suppliers remain our top priority. We're providing regular communications to ensure safe working conditions and are focused on continuously improving our processes and procedures. </p> <p>We are considered an "essential business" due to our critical role in supporting several critical industries. As such, our operations remain open, and we are fulfilling customer orders as required according to standard lead times. The only exception is in India, where the government implemented a full country 21 day shut down as of March 24. </p> <p>As previously noted, Michelman sources very few materials from any of the identified global hot spots, and we have been assured by suppliers that all is working as normal. And, while we recognize that there are growing concerns with the availability of ocean freight, we have not experienced any issues to date. We are noticing a decrease in truck availability in certain regions. While this has not yet impacted orders, any additional lead time that can be provided is appreciated to help mitigate these challenges.<br> <br> We have also taken steps to increase inventories of critical materials globally to address any potential challenges. We are also continuing to qualify products across our facilities so that we are not dependent upon any single location to serve you.</p> <p>Our leadership teams remain in regular contact with our key suppliers in each region to assess the latest challenges and mitigate supply chain risks. Some markets, particularly those related to packaging for food and medical supplies, are tightening. We ask that our customers keep this in mind and manage their orders accordingly. Orders in hand will be given priority.</p> <p>Michelman has implemented additional activities to ensure our ability to keep our facilities running. Additional sanitation activities at our locations have been implemented, we have segregated teams of workers and laboratory employees to minimize interaction, and have third parties engaged to provide immediate disinfection should any Michelman employee contract the virus.</p> <p>Furthermore, while any non-operating third party visit is prohibited at our locations, we have also developed strict processes for inbound and outbound deliveries and continue to monitor those few external parties who need to come on-site for any symptoms.</p> <p>Like most companies, Michelman is leveraging remote connectivity solutions for employees that are not directly associated with our physical operations. Most Sales and Administrative functions are being performed without any effect on our usual commercial channels. A back-up team is also in place as part of our contingency planning, in case we face some staffing reduction in the coming weeks. </p> <p>And, while our laboratories have scaled back to better comply with stay-at-home orders, our technical teams stand ready to react to any current issues that might arise to help our customers leverage Michelman solutions to develop even more robust products.</p> <p>At this time there are no known major supply issues; however, we are working on back-up carriers or transportation means to ensure your deliveries are on time. Despite all our efforts, with the challenges the world is facing and the dramatic changes facing our supply chain, it is possible that we could experience issues in the delivery of our products. In these cases, our territory managers will stay in constant communication with our customers to find solutions and provide updates as conditions warrant.</p>

Over 450 Michelman Associates Participate in 8th Annual Commitment to Community Day http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Over-450-Michelman-Associates-Participate-in-8th-Annual-Commitment-to-Community-Day media@michelman.com http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Over-450-Michelman-Associates-Participate-in-8th-Annual-Commitment-to-Community-Day
<p>Michelman held its annual Commitment to Community Day, on September 6, 2019. This year marked the 8th year in a row that the company's associates took time away from their desks to give back to the communities in which they work and live. They volunteered their time and effort at a variety of charitable & non-profit organizations in the USA, Belgium, Luxembourg, Japan, Singapore, China, and India.</p> <p>In the USA, over 200 associates volunteered for organizations throughout the Cincinnati region including <a target="_blank">Stepping Stones Ohio</a>, <a target="_blank">Redwood</a>, <a target="_blank">People Working Cooperatively</a>, <a target="_blank">YMCA Camp Ernst</a>, <a target="_blank">Easterseals</a>, <a target="_blank">Cincinnati Fire Museum</a>, <a target="_blank">Point Arc</a>, <a target="_blank">Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank</a>, and the <a target="_blank">SPCA,</a> where they assisted with general maintenance and light construction, cleaning, gardening, painting, and the bundling of diapers.</p> <p>Teams of associates from our Windhof, Luxembourg, and Aubange, Belgium locations spent their day serving 15 different organizations, including <a target="_blank">La Petite Plante</a>, a residential service for adults with multiple disabilities and Maison de la Sainte Famille, an organization for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease. They also supported a variety of schools in the area including <a target="_blank">Ecole Communale d'Atter</a><a target="_blank">t</a>, <a target="_blank">Institut Sainte Marie d'Arlon</a>, and Ecole Fondamentale Libre. Their volunteers helped in many ways from landscaping and grounds maintenance to painting and light construction.</p> <p>Michelman's team in Japan discussed environmental issues with representatives at the <a target="_blank">Japan Environmental Action Network (JEAN)</a>. The organization focuses on environmental preservation of the region's oceans and rivers through marine litter investigation and clean-up activities. The team spent the day learning more about how individuals can help JEAN accomplish their goals and objectives.</p> <div class="flex-container c3"> <p class="c2"><img alt="" src="http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/userfiles/Image/Community-Day2019-webwxgetmsgimg.jpg" class="c1"></p> <p class="c2"><img alt="" src="http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/userfiles/Image/Community-Day2019-SPCA.jpg" class="c1"></p> </div> <p>The Singapore team volunteered at one of Singapore's largest community hospitals, <a target="_blank">Yishun Community Hospital (YCH)</a>. They participated in patient engagements, including simple exercise sessions, visited with rehabilitating patients, and helped maintain the hospital's rooftop vegetable gardens.</p> <p>Associates from Michelman China prepared 12,123 books for electronic borrowing for the library of the Wenxin School. The school is for children of migrant workers in Shanghai and is very resource-constrained. Preparing thousands of books would have taken the library administrator several months to organize. </p> <p>In Mumbai, India, rains and flooding delayed Michelman's volunteer efforts for one week, but the team served the Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar Vidyalaya School in Dahisar. They painted six classrooms and donated uniforms, shoes, and school supplies for 250 primary school students.</p> <p>Steve Shifman, President & CEO of Michelman, explained his pride in the organization: "When I look at the scope of this year's volunteer efforts, I am in awe. A relatively small initiative that began seven years ago has grown into a worldwide effort with hundreds of associates volunteering at over 25 organizations. 'Giving' is one of Michelman's core values, and this is what Giving truly looks like."</p>

Michelman to Introduce JEC Forum Chicago Attendees to Powerful Line-up of Fiber Sizings that Improve Performance of Carbon Fiber Composites http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Michelman-to-Introduce-JEC-Forum-Chicago-Attendees-to-Powerful-Line_up-of-Fiber-Sizings-that-Improve-Performance-of-Carbon-Fiber-Composites media@michelman.com http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/Michelman-to-Introduce-JEC-Forum-Chicago-Attendees-to-Powerful-Line_up-of-Fiber-Sizings-that-Improve-Performance-of-Carbon-Fiber-Composites

Michelman will introduce visitors to the JEC Forum Chicago Conference & Business Meetings to its portfolio of fiber sizing solutions that help industry exploit the benefits of composites: design freedom, consolidation of parts, and integration of functionality while meeting lightweighting initiatives.

Michelman fiber sizings are available for a variety of application types, and dramatically improve fiber-polymer interface adhesion. These help industries including automotive, transportation, construction, aerospace, energy, and sport improve the quality and performance of composites.

Visitors to Michelman's booth #113 will find a focus on Hydrosize? Carbon, which allows carbon fiber manufacturers to optimize the interfacial adhesion between polymers and fibers by tailoring the surface chemistry of their reinforcement fibers to the chemistry of the matrix resin. Various grades are available and offer a wide variety of solutions depending on resin compatibility, fiber type, and desired composite performance.

Designed for polyamides including high-temperature applications, the Hydrosize Carbon 200 Series is APE, solvent, and VOC-free and is perfect for fiber reinforced nylon composites where greater thermal stability is required. Coolant pumps are a typical automotive application. Other benefits of these small particle size dispersions include excellent film-forming properties and high strand integrity.

Formulated for polycarbonates (PC) and other PC blends such as PC-ABS, the Hydrosize Carbon 300 Series produces good chemical resistance along with interfacial adhesion to polymer systems. Appropriate applications include laptop cases or other electronic components.

The Hydrosize Carbon 400 Series includes high-performance grades that can withstand the extreme processing temperatures that many high-temperature thermoplastics require. Appropriate materials include PEEK, PPS, PEI, and others used to produce various composite engine components. This series exhibits excellent thermal stability, mechanical properties, and low creep. It is especially suited for chopped carbon fiber applications.

The Hydrosize Carbon 700 Series is formulated to improve the performance of carbon fiber reinforced vinyl ester composites and is perfect for under-the-hood applications. Its proprietary chemistry allows for increased adhesion between the carbon fiber and various vinyl ester compounds.

The JEC Forum is taking place June 19-20, 2019 at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois.

In Memoriam: Philip S. Cohen - Visionary Who Changed the Corrugated Industry http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/In-Memoriam%3a-Philip-S.-Cohen-_-Visionary-Who-Changed-the-Corrugated-Industry media@michelman.com http://www.ejianlong.com.cn/Media/Releases/In-Memoriam%3a-Philip-S.-Cohen-_-Visionary-Who-Changed-the-Corrugated-Industry

Philip S. Cohen, former President and Chairman of Michelman, passed away on May 3, 2019, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Affectionately known to all as Phil, he served an active role in the company from 1956 until the early 2000s where he brought focus with his outstanding leadership, business acumen, and foresight. He was a visionary who foresaw the importance of sustainability and introduced water-based chemistry to Michelman in the 1950s, which has been the cornerstone of Michelman's business for nearly 70 years. A pioneer in the corrugated industry, he facilitated the manufacturing of Resisto Coat?, the first brand of wax emulsions created for water beading and non-abrasion on corrugate. These formulas became industry standards for protecting appliances and durable goods throughout the shipping process. He understood the "Voice of the Customer" before it became a popular term, and Michelman's most long-lasting innovations grew out of his effort to continually provide more value to the organization's customers.

This early foresight and customer service laid the groundwork for Michelman's legacy of innovation and customer intimacy. He recognized that Michelman needed a mechanism to get water-based functional and decorative coatings onto paper webs effectively, and he took it upon himself to design the first Michelman Blade Coater (MBC). This device revised many times over, enabled any corrugated plant to apply coatings in-line on a board machine, which changed the corrugated industry forever. With this application technique development in hand, Phil Cohen was able to reach into emerging spaces, further altering the industry by providing recyclable/repulpable chemistries for paper - water-resistant coatings, electrostatic coatings, heat resistant coatings, oil and grease resistant coatings, and more. Many of these became the foundations for flexible packaging coating design and positioned Michelman with a full suite of solutions for the packaging industry.

Phil Cohen found his right partner for collaborative innovation in John Michelman, Ph.D. Their partnership, which began in 1965, developed many innovations still available as Michelman products today. Dr. John Michelman excelled in coatings development while Phil Cohen created and managed the business models to sell them. Decades ago, they were the first to develop water-based paper coatings and applicators in tandem as a total system. Today, Michelman remains the paper, and corrugated industry's primary source for solutions and this successful collaboration was just one of the many reasons that Michelman's global headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio is the Philip S. Cohen and Dr. John S. Michelman Campus.

"Phil was a fantastic human being, husband, father, and grandfather. If that were not enough, he was also an outstanding leader, mentor, coach, and friend to countless people inside and outside of Michelman's organization. All will miss Phil's smile, can-do attitude, wisdom, and words of encouragement."

Jerry Reichert, Senior Vice President & General Manager of CBT and Michelman's Chairman of the Board

He set the standard for customer care and service and made it a company priority to increase personal connections with customers. Legendary at Michelman, his name has become synonymous with excellent customer service. Stories such as Phil jumping over desks to answer a phone call or Phil driving through a snowstorm to fulfill a customer's order on time are part of company lore! Because of this world-class demonstration of customer-focus, Michelman created the Philip S. Cohen Award for Customer Service in 2007. This honor, awarded yearly to an associate that consistently adds long-term value and exceeds customer expectations, is the highest honor an associate can receive. This honor will represent an even more important sentiment in the company.

Jerry Reichert, Senior Vice President & General Manager of CBT and Michelman's Chairman of the Board added, "First and foremost, Phil was a fantastic human being, husband, father, and grandfather. If that were not enough, he was also an outstanding leader, mentor, coach, and friend to countless people inside and outside of Michelman's organization. All will miss Phil's smile, can-do attitude, wisdom, and words of encouragement. Future generations of the extended Michelman organization will continue to benefit from Phil's countless contributions." With his style, he made all feel welcome, and this greatly accelerated the positive trajectory of the company. Michelman's growth under his leadership included significantly increased revenue and technology development, and global expansion into Europe and Asia. This success was due to his philosophy of collaboration. As the genesis of Michelman's core value of collaboration, he worked with customers, vendors, and associates to bring in alternative points of view. He promoted "outside of the box" thinking, which provided more opportunity for innovation and success - for both Michelman and the coatings industry.

A native and life-long resident of Cincinnati, Philip Cohen was born on December 31, 1930, graduated from Hughes High School, Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), and obtained an MBA from Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio). He subsequently joined the US Navy, and while serving, he married the love of his life, Lois Michelman. They shared a love of philanthropy and founded the Freeda Kay House to help domestic abuse survivors and their children. He also shared his passion for cycling by donating hundreds of bicycles to numerous organizations. In addition to his dedication to his family, his work, and philanthropic endeavors, most will remember him for the kindness and warmth he shared with everyone he encountered. Philip Cohen walked through the world with joy and grace, smiling until the very end.

<p>Philip S. Cohen, former President and Chairman of Michelman, passed away on May 3, 2019, in Cincinnati, Ohio.</p> <p></p> <p>Affectionately known to all as Phil, he served an active role in the company from 1956 until the early 2000s where he brought focus with his outstanding leadership, business acumen, and foresight. He was a visionary who foresaw the importance of sustainability and introduced water-based chemistry to Michelman in the 1950s, which has been the cornerstone of Michelman&rsquo;s business for nearly 70 years. A pioneer in the corrugated industry, he facilitated the manufacturing of Resisto Coat&trade;, the first brand of wax emulsions created for water beading and non-abrasion on corrugate. These formulas became industry standards for protecting appliances and durable goods throughout the shipping process. He understood the &ldquo;Voice of the Customer&rdquo; before it became a popular term, and Michelman&rsquo;s most long-lasting innovations grew out of his effort to continually provide more value to the organization&rsquo;s customers.</p> <p></p> <p>This early foresight and customer service laid the groundwork for Michelman&rsquo;s legacy of innovation and customer intimacy.
